An O-Pee-Chee extravaganza offered here features a run of 1970s sets, with the first half of course leading in interest but typically not in condition. Low grade childhood-like assemblies however feature superstars Orr, Howe, Hull, Dryden and Lafleur multiple times, with notorious rookie cards in the mix. A Tony Esposito RC is not present in ’69-70, with key cards among the lowest in the first few years. Decent Clarke (VG-EX (MK)) and Sittler (VG+) rookies are joined by (Poor) Perreault, Dyrden, Lafleur and Dionne RCs and marked checklists. A complete ’71-72 OPC booklet set (VG), all four WHA sets and condition that starts to improve in ’75-76 to be EX-or-better from ’76-77 up is to note, along with a not-hard-to-look-at PSA GOOD 2 Wayne Gretzky RC, joined by rather sharp ’79-80 counterparts. Further details and images of key cards are on our website – this hoard offers numerous possibilities.
A ’69-70 Serge Savard RC, although with a not-straight right edge is VG, while a ’73-74 Larry Robinson rookie is but Fair. There is a little duplication throughout, with two Don Cherry RCs and others from ’74-75 VG or lower. We spot some creases/issues and marked checklists in the two earliest WHA sets, with the other two more attractive (EX-MT or better) and with unmarked checklists. The NHL sets from ’76-77 and up are EX+ or higher (most are EX-MT or better) with unmarked checklists and team checklists. Bryan Trottier (EX+) and Mike Bossy (EX-MT) rookies highlight the later sets, along with the aforementioned Gretz RC. A one-inch horizontal crease protruding from the right edge extends into the upper part of the background and is more of a back crease that is not all that detectable when viewing the card straight on. A ton of fun and divvying up is what you’re in for with this OPC bonanza. Please note that the sets have been checked but a few may be missing an odd card – one’s eyes get weary with a stash of this magnitude.
