Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Returning to the NHL to coach the Minnesota North Stars after a stint in France as player/coach for the Epinal Écureuils, Bob Gainey would remain at the helm from 1990-91, to and including 1995-96. Additional seasons would be spent as GM, with Gainey guiding the club to the 1999 Stanley Cup championship. Originating from his personal collection and hailing from his time with Minnesota/Dallas, we offer a neat group of memorabilia, highlighted by a team-signed Stars jersey and signed framed display. First, the jersey was produced by CCM with “L” sizing, with a tackle twill team crest and no numbers. 23 have signed the front in black marker, including Mike Modano, Kirk Muller, Pierre Turgeon and others. The framed display is 24” x 28”, with the players, coach and GM honoured, with Gainey signing the matte in gold. The additional items include three framed displays, a pair of signed cards and more! A signed LOA from Bob Gainey will accompany.
The additional signers on the jersey include Bill Guerin, Marty Turco, Darryl Sydor, Brenden Morrow, Ulf Dahlen, Scott Young, Aaron Downey, Manny Malhotra, Niko Kapanen and others. The first additional item is a framed display for Gainey’s Stars' season tickets for 1999-00, 2000-01 and 2001-02 (17 ½” x 32 ½”), with some wear to the frame. The second display is a Stanley Cup champions plaque from 1999 (12” x 15”), made of finished and beveled wood, with a team photo placed under plexiglass and a small metal plate listing the particulars including “1998-99 Dallas Stars Stanley Cup Champions”. In very good condition, there is some wear and scratches to the metal plate. The final framed display is original artwork of Gainey from 1999 (approx 13” x 16”), with a handwritten note over the reverse thanking him for bringing hockey to Dallas. Also included in this lot, we have two cards signed by Gainey in marker, one as head coach of Minnesota (2 ½” x 3 ½”), the other with Dallas (4” x 6”), a Stars baseball cap, two t-shirts, an opening night program for the American Airlines Center from 2001 and more. Lastly a pair of post-career Ferland 3300L game-used gloves in Stars' colors has each glove signed by Gainey in silver with the gloves showing lighter but noticeable wear.
