Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
A pre-rookie card of Jacques Plante, picturing the famous goalie in his Montreal Royals uniform during his time in the Quebec Senior Hockey League, highlights this group of cards, the likes of which having long been thought to have been produced by Laval Dairy, but with evidence of "Bedard & Donaldson" being the firm that issued them. The Plante card has an EX appearance but is dropped to VG+ by a subtle light half-inch back crease rising up from the middle of the bottom edge. A Herbie Carnegie card displays uneven toning and is otherwise EX-MT, while #37-Punch Imlach is one of 22 cards with back damage, exhibiting evidence of once having been glued. The rest of the group of 74 averages VG, with minimal creasing observed, while a dozen of 16 other examples, often referred to as "update" cards from 1952-53, are similar. Numbers are 13, 33, 53, 90, 99, 106, 108, 112, 116, 117, 118 and 119-Hurst, with four lower grade condition exceptions; 104, 110, 114-Guidolin and 120.
