Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Joining the NHL at the height of the Roaring Twenties as the country’s third NHL club after the Boston Bruins and New York Americans, the Pittsburgh Pirates adopted the moniker and colours of the city’s parent ball club, and iced team for just five seasons which included a pair of Stanley Cup semifinals appearances. A sixth season would also be played, with this taking place in Philadelphia, with the club relocating to become the Quakers for just the 1930-31 NHL season before folding. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a group of photos totaling six, with four examples featuring the Pirates, and a pair representing the Quakers. Vintage prints most likely done in the 1950s/60s with each in the 8” x 10” range, the Pirates photos include Odie Cleghorn, Tex White, Rodger Smith and Hib Milks, while the Quakers photos include Stan Crosett and Herb Drury. The group shows light wear, with the Crosett, White and Drury photos “rolled”, with clear tape added to the reverse near at the top of the Drury photo to rectify a tear.
