Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Especially dapper throughout their short NHL existence with arguably the most patriotic uniform ever produced, the New York Americans were the first major league club in the Big Apple, and featured a number of iconic superstars skating for Uncle Sam including Bullet Joe Simpson, Ching Johnson and Eddie Shore. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a desirable group of vintage single-signed Americans photos totaling thirteen, accompanied by an additional six vintage unsigned Americans photos. All in the 8” x 10” range or slightly smaller, the majority of the signed photos have a personalization to Hamlyn, with varying inks used. Included are Tommy Anderson, Art Chapman, Rabbit McViegh, Normie Himes, Red Conn, Johnny Sorrell, Alex Smith, Norm Larson, Deed Klein, Red Green Peanuts O’Flaherty, Tony Hemmerling and Al Murray, while the unsigned photos include Slobodian, Burke, Benson, Brydge and two others.
The signatures in the collection all display well, with just a smudge to the “Best Wishes” preceding the Normie Himes signature. The majority of the photos are also somewhat “rolled”, with many sporting creases, surface and edge wear. Most also have a notation on the reverse from Hamlyn.
