Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Loaded with veteran talent during the late-1930s including Nels Stewart, Hooley Smith, Eddie Shore, Busher Jackson and Charlie Conacher, the New York Americans would play a final season in Brooklyn in 1941-42 before ceasing operations during the Second World War. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a pair of Amerks real photo postcards, including for 1938-39 and 1939-40. With each depicting full on-ice team photos, the 1938-39 specimen is just under the standard 3 ½” x 5 ½”, while the 1939-40 example at just under 3 ½” x 6” appears to be an original photo. Handwritten text listing the club, year and players appears on the front and reverse of each, and it should be noted that according to Hamlyn, the postcards were originally sent to him by Americans coach and HOFer Red Dutton.
Each sports toning and light to moderate surface wear (there are a few surface lines to the 1939-40 photo), with heavy residue on the reverse of each from scrapbook removal.
