Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Hockey’s incomparable “Rocket”, Maurice Richard is offered here in tempting NM-MT 8 condition, with the founder of the NHL’s 500 goal club in his second-to-last season when this card led Parkhurst’s 50-card set in 1958-59. The Rocket had scored #500 the previous season, with this beauty one of 49 to have scored “8” at PSA. The grading company has assessed 240 examples of card #38, with just 11 MINT 9s and four NM-MT+ 8.5s edging the 8s. Described on the back here as an “an amazing piece of hockey machinery”, Richard and the Canadiens would break Toronto’s record by winning their fourth straight Stanley Cup in the spring of ’59. What a time in hockey history and what a card to add to a high grade Richard/’58-59 collection.
