Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
The first man to summit the insurmountable Mount Everest, Edmund Hillary, along with a Sherpa mountaineer, surmounted the Himalayan wonder as members of a British expedition in 1953, with the New Zealand beekeeper knighted for his accomplishement. Celebrating the historic feat, we offer a lithograph signed by Sir Edmund and produced by Canadian artist James Lumbers, in 1992. At approx 25” x 31”, Hillary is expertly depicted over the right side, with a ghost image of his Sherpa along with Everest over the left. Hillary has signed within the bottom left in pencil, the artist within the bottom right, with “Hillary Conquers Everest – May 29, 1953” embossed over the base. The signatures display well, with some corner wear to the lithograph including a large crease over the upper left and a few lines of toning along the top.
