Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
First fielding a professional baseball team in the International Association in 1890, the city of Montreal has had a long relationship with the American pastime, with the Montreal Royals and Expos both sharing a special spot in the city’s consciousness. A great collection of Royals and Expos items are offered, highlighted by a baseball signed by The Kid, Gary Carter. First, we have five assorted Royals programs, with examples from 1942, 1943, 1945, 1952 and 1958, followed by a 1969 first year Expos yearbook and opening game ticket for the Expos first game. Next, we have a complete run of Expos schedules from 1969 to 2004, the aforementioned Carter-signed ball, an Expos magazine from 2003 with Carter cover image and a group of 28 schedules from 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. The programs all remain in excellent condition with light handling wear (the 1958 example is in lower grade, with loose pages), with the official Rawlings NL baseball signed in blue ballpoint, with Carter adding “The Kid”. The first-year yearbook shows light handling wear, with “1969” handwritten on the cover, with a few creases to the 5 ¼” x 2 ½” opening game ticket. A COA from Steiner will accompany for the signed baseball.
