Evolving from benefit games played for Ace Bailey, Howie Morenz and Babe Siebert, the first official NHL All-Star Game took place in 1947, with the original All-Star contests pitting the then-current Stanley Cup champion against a team of NHL All-Stars, with this occurring until 1968. An impressive collection of All-Star Game tickets (mostly stubs) totaling 38 are offered (for 23 different games), ranging from 1970 until 2011, with a few All-Star Game programs also included. Examples are present for 1970, 1971 (working press ticket), 1972 (2 – with one signed by Jean Beliveau and a few others), 1973, 1976, 1978, 1982, 1986 (2 – one full ticket and one stub), 1988 (2 – both full tickets), 1989, 1990 (2 – one for the All-Star festivities, one for the All-Star Game), 1991 (6 – including two full tickets for the All-Star festivities and one stub, and two full tickets for the All-Star Game along with one stub), 1992 (2 – one for the All-Star festivities, one for the All-Star Game), 1993 (2 – one for the All-Star festivities, one for the All-Star Game), 1994 (3 – two different All-Star Game tickets, and one for the All-Star festivities), 1999 (full ticket), 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 (full ticket), 2004 (2), 2008 (encapsulated by PSA as “Full Authentic”) and 2011 (tickets for both the skills competition and All-Star Game, with the tickets still attached).
The All-Star Game programs in the collection include examples for 1991, 1992, 1994 and 2000, with each showing just light handling wear. The majority of the tickets also show light handling wear, with moderate wear to a few of the earlier tickets.
