Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
A requirement for any advanced hockey autograph collection and crucially historic for both the evolution of Canada’s foremost sport and the development of the nation, this military commission from 1880 has been signed by Queen Victoria and the individual responsible for the Stanley Cup, Lord Stanley of Preston. At roughly 12” x 16” (open) and dated “7-2-80”, the folded antique document features wonderful period script, with affixed seals over the upper left. Stanley has signed over the bottom right, with the fountain pen signature displaying well, with a bit of minor discolouration encompassing the signature. Queen Victoria has signed over the upper left, with the large and majestic signature slightly faded but attractive. Arguably the most important signature in hockey, quality examples are always highly contested, with this paramount document ready for an expensive frame.
The document exhibits prominent fold lines along with even toning and small areas of minor discolouration (this encompasses the Stanley signature, as mentioned), with an intact stamp over the reverse.
