Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Absolutely charming and the first of its type we’ve ever handled, we have a collection of homemade hockey player pieces from the 1930s, with examples made from hockey cards. Designed for some sort of homemade game, with a small net originally fastened to a pair of child’s alphabet blocks included along with a small hockey stick, 20 cardboard players have been affixed to a small wooden base including 14 made from hockey cards (the remaining 6 have an “M” on their jerseys), with an additional 22 players not mounted, with 17 produced from hockey cards, with the remaining 5 again having an “M” on their jerseys. The hockey cards used include examples from the 1933-34 O-Pee-Chee and Ice Kings sets, with Aurel Joliat, Lorne Chabot, Hooley Smith, Howie Morenz, Charlie Conacher, Red Horner and others. Most of the pieces show heavy wear with toning, with a number showing damage.
