Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020

A marvelous offering that serious jersey and Flyer collectors will want to consider treating themselves to is this tantalizing orange durene Flyers home jersey from the team’s inaugural season. With Pearson Sporting Goods and size 46 tags in the neck, the sweater is a style worn by Philadelphia in its first three seasons and one that seldom surfaces. This treasure comes to us from goaltender Doug Favell, an original Flyer who remembers acquiring it during that historic first season in ’67-68. Embroidered Flyers crest on the front is sewn-on and still has vibrant colors, with black tackle twill “22”s sewn on the sleeves and a white tackle twill “22” on the back. That’s the number worn by Forbes Kennedy who the Flyers claimed from Boston in the expansion draft and who was traded to Toronto in a late-season trade the following (’68-69) campaign. With a General Athletic washing instructions tag in the lower hem revealing “50% Cotton Durene – 50% Nylon”, the jersey’s signs of wear are minimal; five spots of white paint transfer are in the middle of the front hem, with a thin half-inch stain in the white stripe just above. There’s a thin 2-inch mark on the front, halfway up and near the right seam, with a pea-size stain in the white of the left shoulder, near the neckline. Preserved almost in its original condition by Doug Favell, the superior uniform is stunning.
