Scoring the inaugural goal at the hallowed Montreal Forum in 1924, Billy Boucher also netted the first hat trick in the famous venue, with the Ottawa native securing an impressive 23 goals in just 24 games in his second season with Montreal, in 1922-23. Boucher would skate on a line with HOFers Howie Morenz and Aurele Joliat beginning in 1923-24, with the trio leading the Habs’ to the 1924 Stanley Cup. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a handwritten letter signed by the former Canadian Defence Department worker. At 8” x 13” and dated “April 12, 1954”, the single page communication has Boucher referencing a 1924 Canadiens’ “World’s Champions” photo he signed for Hamlyn, with addresses furnished of fellow ’24 members including Joliat. The blue ballpoint signature is gorgeous with no issues. Boucher would pass at 59, in 1958.
Signed “Wm (William) Billy Boucher”, there are no issues for the signature. The letter itself exhibits some toning and edge wear, with four horizontal fold lines present, along with a pair of punched holes along the top border for binder insertion.
