Richter remained one of the game’s best goaltenders following a Stanley Cup victory with the Rangers and a World Cup title for the United States. Featured here is a VIC 9050 stick from the 1996-97 era which was certainly used in practice by the veteran netminder due to the presence of a “P” in green ink below the knob. The original white tape remains on the knob and blade as seen on his game-used sticks. There is also a large amount of blue tape affixed to the paddle that was added on his sticks that were used in practices and warm-ups. It is possible that this twig has seen some action in a game before being deemed fit for practice, but we are unable to confirm. On the shaft, M RICHTER is stamped in between 9050 and VIC. At the bottom of the paddle, Richter signed his name and number and offered a dedication is silver ink of “To Kevin All My Best!” For a stick dedicated to practice, there is a great deal of wear which includes marks and abrasions throughout. Some of the tape on the blade has come up and that area shows off plenty of puck marks. The front edge of the paddle does have some visible gouges and a gouge hidden under tape. Richter’s unique way of taping a practice stick makes this a must-have for Rangers collectors or those that appreciate goalie sticks.
