One of the more offensive blueliners to ever grace the NHL, Larry Murphy set both assists and points records for defenceman during his rookie season of 1980-81, with over 1,200 points scoring during his lengthy and prominent Hall of Fame career. This Los Angeles Kings jersey was worn by the Scarborough native in 1982-83, just his third NHL season. A partially-detached Maska label sits along the collar near a laundering tag with “52” sizing, with an embroidered Maska crest over the reverse bottom hem. Styled with a gorgeous embroidered crown team crest, the V-neck sweater has been accented with dual-colour tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with “Murphy” over the affixed nameplate in purple twill. We should also note that the original double cloth style fight strap was removed, replaced with a dual-clasp strap, with the customization period. Hailing from the Michael Wexler collection, an LOA will accompany this important Kings sweater.
Marks, scrapes, fabric pulls and a few very small holes are visible over the lower front, with heavy board burns over each sleeve along with resulting holes. There is also some minor pilling in spots, with team repairs over the left (6) and right (5) sleeves.
