Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Dating back to a binder of hockey cards from the late-1960s, joined by four mid-1970s starter sets, this stash also includes “pages” of football (CFL), basketball and early Toronto Blue Jays cards from the ‘70s. A modest (17) 1967-68 OPC hockey cards are followed by over 120 from ’68-69, (with a little star power), while more interesting are (170) from ’69-70, with superstars Howe, Hull and Orr each appearing twice. Nothing high grade but acceptable VG and lower representatives. Approximate totals are in brackets for entries from ’74-75 (300) ’75-76 (250), ’76-77 (200) and ’77-78 (300), with 200+ from ’80-81 also in the mix. Joe Theisman, Mosca, Lancaster and Reed are among CFL stars present.
Bobby Orr All-Star and Norris Trophy cards, Gordie’s regular and Mr. Hockey (NNO) cards and Bobby Hull regular and All-Star examples are all VG in the group of ’69-70s, with a Serge Savard RC, Sawchuk, Plante and #231-The Stanley Cup also among the VG contributors. Jacques Plante and Jean Beliveau are notable VG+ cards from ’68-69, while low grade are Hull, Mikita, Vachon, Hall and Redmond RC. Rookie cards of Bowman, Cherry, Salming and McDonald are multi-creased, with the rest from ’74-75 also showing obvious handling/wear, just not as much. Heavy creases also affect a Bryan Trottier RC but ’76-77 and ’77-78 lots are nicer; VG and up, with a ’77-78 Orr (scotch tape) a notable exception. The ’80-81s are without the key RCs, with three unmarked checklists present, while some miscellaneous inserts over the years may yield a few pleasant surprises …Now then, as for the other sports, a 1971 Joe Theisman CFL rookie is way off-center but crease-free and otherwise EX, with stars and Hall of Famers sprinkled through over six dozen from 1970, close to 60 from ’71 and 30-some from ’72. Oh, a few (4) from ’68 are creased VG jobs but with Ron Lancaster present, with a few miscellaneous CFL inserts also to mention. Dr J, Kareem, Moses Malone and Robert Parish (3) make appearances among some 80 b-ball cards, more than half from ’78-79 and with duplication. About five dozen early Blue Jays cards (1977-1980), other miscellaneous baseball cards and a 48-card set of ’87-88 OPC hockey “minis” complete. Like we like to say, “numerous possibilities here.”
