A three-volume set of “The Trail of the Stanley Cup” is featured in this lot comprised of seven leather bound editions of this definite prerequisite to any important hockey library. Author Charles Coleman's history of hockey and Lord Stanley's trophy from 1893 to 1967 is contained within Volumes 1, 2 and 3 of this series that is seen as the definitive work on the subject. Only 1,000 copies of this special edition of the first two books were presented to important hockey figures; the third was limited to 1,500 books. Eeach of the seven books offered here are individually numbered. The three-volume set with slipcovers does not have matched numbers. Also included are three additional copies of Vol. 1 and a second Vol. 2.
The set of three includes Vol. 1 (1893-1926) that is No. 890 with a bit of damage to the edges of the slipcover; Vol. 2 (1927-1946) that is No. 449 in handwritten blue ballpoint and in beautiful condition with a little wear to the bottom edge of the slipcover; and Vol. 3 (1947-1967) that is No. 1100 and has the bottom cut off of the slipcover, and comes with NHL 60th Anniversary bookmark and presentation card with league president Clarence Campbell’s facsimile signature.
The additional books include Vol. 1 with No. 577 that has a loose “NHL presented to M. Donald Grant with the compliments of the NHL and Irving Mitchell Felt” and wear to the leather front cover;
Vol. 1 with No. 427 that has “NHL presented to Irving Liverman with the compliments of the NHL and Frank J. Selke” and a dent/gouge to the upper right edge of the pages toward the front of the book;
Vol. 1 with No. 551 that has “NHL presented to C. Charles Jowaiszas with the compliments of the NHL and New York Rangers” and a folded first page, wear to the front and back covers, and wear to the printing on the spine;
And Vol. 2 with No. 907 handwritten in blue ballpoint, which is in nice condition.
