Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Featuring past tennis greats and representing Australian, South American and World Amateur Champions, we have a signed photo collection of four, with Jack Kramer (2), Pancho Segura and Dinny Pails. All signed for “Barney” while visiting him in the hospital in 1948 after a concussion – according to a label affixed on a scrapbook backing that houses two of the photos, the additional two photos are affixed to a matching black backing, with both measuring 8 ½” x 11”. The photos themselves are all approx 8” x 10”, with text listing the player’s name over the base, and the signatures all in identical blue ink. The first feature’s Dinny Pails, the “Champion of Australia”, with Dinny signing over the bottom left, adding “Good Luck” and “Best Wishes”, along with “1948”, with just a small potion of the signature slightly harder to see over the dark background. The second feature’s Pancho Segura, the “South American Champion”, with the signature personalized to Barney along with “Good Luck”, with no issues for the signature. Next, the Jack Kramer photos both have “Worlds Amatuer Champion” over the base, with one showing match action, the other, an image of Kramer leaving the court with Bobby Riggs. Both signatures have been placed directly over his image, and they display especially well. The glossy-stock photos themselves are each attached to their backing along just the top border, with each showing varying degrees of wear, including some creasing, edge wear and surface indentations. With all three players deceased, Jack Kramer and Pancho Segura are both members of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
