Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019

An iconic goalkeeper and one of the first two selected for immortality with his enshrinement within hockey’s house of holy, we have a pair of programs, with legendary netminder Charlie Gardiner featured. Included, we have a Madison Square Garden program from the 1927-28 season for a contest between the NY Americans and Chicago Black Hawks, with Gardiner tending the Windy City hopefuls net, followed by an Ottawa Auditorium program, also from the 1927-28 season, for a match between the Senators and Montreal Canadiens. This program is significant not only for the inclusion of the noteworthy Habs line-up of Howie Morenz and Aurel Joliat, George Hainsworth would secure one of his historic shutouts in this very match, and he still remains in third spot on the all-time list.
The Madison Square Garden program was sold for the Dec 18th game in which the Americans defeated Chicago 2-0, with five HOFers in the starting line-up including Lionel Conacher for NY and Dick Irvin for the Hawks. The center line-up page is loose and was inserted and never secured to the publication, as these programs served for both Rangers and Amerks matches. With team photos of both the Ottawa Senators and Americans, the program displays nicely, with heavy glue and paper residue over the back cover, along with heavy wear and creasing to the insert. The Ottawa Auditorium program hails from a Feb 28th contest won by the visiting Habs 2-0, with nine of the twelve starters members of the Hall, including Bert Gardiner for Montreal, and King Clancy for the Sens. The program displays admirably despite exhibiting some creasing, corner wear and toning, with both staples showing some rust.
