With the overwhelming majority long falling to the wrecking ball, we have a large and historically significant postcard collection of 125, featuring the early and past buildings of hockey. Highlighted by important venues that witnessed the evolution of the game, we have postcards for the famous Amphidrome in Houghton (both interior and exterior postcards - Portage Lake Hockey Club-IPHL), Duquesne Garden in Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh Professional Hockey Club-IPHL, Pittsburgh Pirates 1925-30), Elysium Arena in Cleveland (5 total, 2 different - Cleveland Falcons 1936-37), Boston Arena (Boston Bruins 1924-28), Boston Garden (2 different – 1 showing Boston vs Montreal with Aurel Joliat visible), the Hippodrome in Eveleth Minn (USAHA’s Eveleth Reds 1922-26) and so much more!
Also included in this large hockey arena postcard collection, we have postcards for Chicago Coliseum (8 total, 6 different – building’s third incarnation, Chicago Black Hawks 1926-29), Chicago Stadium (2 different - Chicago Black Hawks 1929-94), Olympic arena in Salt Lake City (4 different, with 1 showing interior game action. This was the venue for the 1932 hockey matches, with both the Olympic rings and “HOCKEY” pictured on the exterior of the building on one postcard), Cleveland Arena (2 identical - Cleveland Barons 1937-73), Buffalo Auditorium (Buffalo Majors AHA 1931), St Louis Arena (2 different – St Louis Eagles NHL 1934-35, St. Louis Flyers AHA/AHL 1929-53), Hershey Sports Arena/Hersheypark Arena (interior shot showing hockey teams – Hershey Bears AHL 1936-2002), Atlantic City Auditorium (8 total, with slight variations to the same image, 1 showing interior game action - Atlantic City Seagulls 1933–42, 1947–52) and Maple Leaf Gardens (39 total with 8 different with slight variations – 6 total showing hockey, 2 different images). We also have postcards for the Memorial Arena in Sunderland Ont, Sault Memorial Gardens in Sault Ste Marie, Winter Fair Arena in Brandon Man, “Skating Rink” in Timmins Ont, Sudbury Arena, “The Arena” in Halifax, “The Arena” in Owen Sound and more! Condition within the collection varies, with many postcards displaying especially well with lower technical grades, while others sport expected toning, corner and surface wear along with postmarks and writing. There is also some duplication within the collection.
