Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Especially historic as the matching style worn by a young Wayne Gretzky during his first season of professional hockey, this Indianapolis Racers jersey was worn by Michel Parizeau circa 1977-79, with the Montreal native witnessing each and every WHA season (1972-79), with appearances made with Quebec and Cincinnati as well as the Racers. Originally obtained directly from Parizeau and sporting a Rawlings label with “48” sizing along the collar, a loop-style fight strap has also been utilized on the vintage garment. Featuring a layered tackle twill team crest, “16” appears over the sleeves and verso in matching material, with “Parizeau” across the affixed nameplate in blue heat-pressed vinyl letters. Existing for a mere four seasons along with just portions of a fifth, any and all Racers jerseys are extremely rare, with the club’s association with Wayne Gretzky greatly adding to the desirability.
Exhibiting scuffs and scrapes across the team crest, there is also a large stick mark over the lower front, with additional dark marks over the upper and lower left sleeve. Board burns are also visible on the reverse hem and over the left sleeve, with paint transfer to the left of the reverse numbers and near the left elbow.
