Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
One of the most iconic and controversial trading card sets of all-time is on the auction block here and features the eye-catching and colorful artwork of renowned pulp artist Norman Saunders, the latter depicting a Martian invasion. Most of the nicest cards have been graded by PSA, highlighted by #21-Prize Captive at NM-MT 8 (OC), while another key, 1-The Invasion Begins, is an EX 5. Slabbed lineup also includes three with OC qualifiers; 27-The Giant Flies (NM-MT 8), 6-Burning Navy Ships (NM 7) and 44-Battle In The Air (NM 7), while three EX-MT 6s are #s 15, 32 and 49 (ST). At EX 5 are 13, 35 and 53. Very few creases are spotted among the raw rest, with corner wear sending the majority to the VG-EX to EX range (VG+ cards are also present), with however a trio at EX-MT-or-better (10, 29, 41) and then a half-dozen lesser. A half-inch subtle crease renders a desirable unmarked (#55) checklist VG+, while 36-Destroying a Dog is G+. A wonderful(!) mix of horror, comedy and sci-fi await the high bidder - these are cool.
