Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Well remembered for his toothless grin and rugged, no-holds-barred play, Bobby Clarke spent 15 seasons in a Philadelphia jersey, and he remains the all-time leader for games played for the Flyers. We have a jersey signed by the two-time Stanley Cup champion, with this specimen featuring a unique, hand-painted image by Paul Madden. Styled with a tackle twill team crest with “16” over the sleeves and verso along with “Clarke” over the affixed nameplate, the Flyers’ executive has signed within the “1” over the reverse, with the expertly depicted painting of Clarke just to the right, across the numbers. Madden has signed along the bottom right, with a sticker from JSA numbered “J26523” added beneath the signature.
An artist beginning in the early-1970s while still in high school and first painting the portraits of visiting celebrities, Madden has worked with card companies, promoters and athletes, with his unique works wonderfully executed and especially desirable.
