Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019

A splendid opportunity to score the coveted rookie card of hockey icon Maurice Richard, long heralded as hockey's greatest goal scorer, presents itself here, with this card #4 in close to the same condition as when it was removed from a little cardboard Parkhurst box/wrapper close to 70 years ago - fascinating. At the time, Rocket Richard was in his tenth of 18 seasons and coming off back-to-back 40-goals seasons, scoring 42 in 1950-51 to bring his career total to 292, en route to founding the NHL's 500-goal club. With rich bold original colors and an image right of center, this example was worthy of NM 7 recognition in the eyes of PSA. Our eyes can detect the lightest/slightest of touches at three corners, with a print dot observed on Richard's right shoulder and a few white specs in the upper region's dark background. PSA Population Report numbers indicate that of the 400-plus Richard RCs examined by the company over the years, just 46 scored higher than NM 7, with 33 other 7s joining this one among submissions of the Richard card. A key postwar collectible, this treasure is sure to interest and excite Maurice Richard, Montreal Canadiens, rookie card and '51-52 Parkhurst enthusiasts alike.
We do not spot any unsightly scratches or flaws to the PSA holder, with a few very light subtle scratches on the front only detected upon close inspection, similar to the back.
