Despite finishing in fourth place in the Eastern Division at the conclusion of the 1973-74 WHA season, the Chicago Cougars would slip past both New England and Toronto before succumbing to Gordie Howe and the Houston Aeros in the finals. Presented to the Cougars head scout Florent Potvin, we have a 1973-74 Chicago Cougars WHA Eastern Division Championship trophy. At just over 13” in height and an especially pleasing design not often encountered, a mounted metal player sits atop a trophy bowl with chased handles, with this placed over a two-tone, dual-section wooden base. A small metal plaque has been affixed over the front of the finished upper wooden base listing the particulars including “1973-74 Chicago Cougars” and “WHA Eastern Division Championship”.
The trophy exhibits heavy surface wear throughout but no damage, with the Illinois maker stamped over the underside.
