Appointed as Ambassador to the United Nations by Richard Nixon in 1971, George H.W. Bush first rose through the government ranks of congressman, ambassador, and CIA director before acting as the 43rd vice president of the United States. Defeating Democratic opponent Michael Dukakis in the 1988 presidential election, Bush served as the 41st President of the United States, in office from January 20, 1989, to January 20, 1993. We have a pair of signed notes from the Milton native, along with an invitation from 1993 signed by both the president and the First Lady, Barbara Bush. At approx 3 ½” x 6 ¼”, the first note has a seal along the top section, with “The Vice President of the United States of America” text beneath, with Bush signing in black fiber-tip marker, with no issues for the signature or card stock note. The second note is 4 ¼” x 6 ¼”, with a presidential seal along with typed text dated “June 18, 1990”, with the president signing his first name in black fiber-tip marker, with no issues for the signature or card stock note. The invitation is tri-folded and measure’s approx 8” x 17 ½” (unfolded), with an image of the president, with both he and Barbara signing beneath the image in blue ballpoint, with no issues for the signatures, and just very light handling wear to the invitation itself, with a pair of tiny blemishes over the front along with some minor creasing/wrinkling over the lower reverse. Bush would pass away in Texas in 2018 at the age of 94. A trio of LOAs from JSA will accompany, along with three additional COAs.
