Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

The only president in the history of the United States to serve two non-consecutive terms in office, Grover Cleveland was a champion of fiscal conservatism, with his honesty and integrity praised along with his commitment to the principles of classical liberalism. Winning the popular vote for three presidential elections, Cleveland served as the 22nd and 24th President of the United States, in office from 1885 to 1889, and again, from 1893 to 1897. We have a trio of signed calling cards all executed in fountain pen, with an example from Cleveland along with a card signed by First Lady Frances Cleveland, with the third card signed by their daughter, Rose Elizabeth Cleveland. At approx 2 ¾” x 4 ¼” give or take, “Executive Mansion, Washington” appears over the upper portion of each card, with the Cleveland a gorgeous flowing example, with “May 1894” added. The Lady Frances Cleveland card has “1886-1897” handwritten in pencil over the lower left corner, with the Rose Elizabeth-signed card also dated in her hand, “13 August 1885”. The Cleveland signature displays beautifully, with just light toning to the card along with a tiny blemish along the top border. The Frances Cleveland and Rose Elizabeth cards both exhibit light fading to the signatures with moderate to heavier toning, with paper loss and glue residue over the reverse of the Rose Elizabeth card. Cleveland passed away in Princeton New Jersey in 1908, at the age of 71. An LOA from JSA will accompany, along with three additional COAs.
