Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Celebrating two of the greatest boxers of the 20th century, we have a photo collection of 16, featuring Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston. Included, we have a photo from the first Ali/Liston fight in 1964 (7” x 9 ½”), one from the follow-up bout in 1965 (9 ½” x 11 ½”) which also shows Jersey Joe Walcott as referee, and an image of a bruised Liston with the handwritten caption of “After losing Clay fight” over the reverse. Next, we have 9 miscellaneous Liston photos in the 7” x 10” range give or take, with examples showing him training, along with a pair of oversized photos (approx 8” x 12” with one smaller) including one showing the champ with a crowd of Europeans. Rounding out the lot, we have a pair of Ali photos, with an example showing a bout in 1972 (9” X 12”) along with a photo showing Ali training with his brother (7 ¼” X 9 ½”).
The majority of the photos sport media/photographers stamps and notations over the reverse, with most exhibiting moderate handling wear, along with some creasing, edge wear, toning and surface indentations.
