Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
The most desirable of all hockey card and postcard issues, we have a 1910-11 Sweet Caporal postcard graded ‘Authentic Altered’ by PSA, with this example featuring legendary HOF player and manager Art Ross. An institution in Beantown during the early years of the game, Ross would serve as the Bruins’ first coach and general manager in 1924, having previously won the Stanley Cup twice as a player, with Kenora in 1907 and the Montreal Wanderers in 1908. Featuring a well-centered image with crisp clarity, all four corners display nicely with light touches, with a tiny area of paper loss along the lower left edge. The divided postal reverse remains fairly clean with some minor discolouration, with the card appearing trimmed, currently measuring approx 3 2/8” x 5 3/8”. Despite the assigned grade, the card appears and displays as a visually-pleasing, high-grade example.
We should also note wear to the PSA case, with a few scratches present, including a large example over the reverse.
