Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Hockey's most publicized and traded rookie card these days anchors and highlights this 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee offering, with Wayne Gretzky's famous card #18 here recently examined and graded EX 5 by PSA. Miniscule dings at the upper left and lower right corners are noteworthy on the pleasing, well-centered example, as well as two very subtle left edge dings. The accompanying cards include dozens and dozens of pack-fresh examples, with NM, NM+ and NM-MTs dominating, with standard centering that varies. Intermittent touched corners and white corner specs are also observed, leading to EX+ and EX-MT grades. Notable cards include 82-Oilers Logo (NM (OC)) and the three (unmarked) checklists (two are EX-MT, with #131 EX+ and off-centered), as well as 175-Gordie Howe (EX-MT), 185-Bobby Hull (NM-MT) and 230-Mike Bossy (EX-MT (OC)). We spot just 14 cards with a crease (386-Melrose RC), while all but two of the team checklists/logos (Bruins, Rockies) are unmarked. Dryden, Lafleur and RCs of Smith, Semenko, Tonelli, Simmer and others are also contributors to this popular issue.
One card is a Topps to be replaced; #19-Sedlbauer.
