Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Extremely rare and the first we’ve ever handled, we have a real photo postcard of the Vancouver Millionaires from 1917-18, featuring 4 Hall of Fame members. The Millionaires were one of the inaugural clubs of the Patrick brother’s PCHA in 1911, playing in the league for 15 seasons. With 9 team members pictured dapperly attired in tweed suit jackets and bowler hats, the postal reverse has the names of the player’s handwritten in ballpoint, with no postmark stamp. Hall of Famer's Cyclone Taylor, Mickey MacKay, Si Griffis and Barney Stanley are all pictured, as well as Lloyd Cook, Speed Moynes, Ran McDonald and possibly Leo Cook, along with one unidentified individual. The Millionaires would be crowned Stanley Cup champions in 1915.
The image remains clean with toning the main concern, with a small piece of clear tape affixed along the right edge. A few very small creases are also visible, with the aforementioned handwriting over the reverse along with toning and a few small blemishes.
