Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Invited to try out for the St. Louis Cardinals just a few years after The Gashouse Gang were World Champions in 1934, Milt Schmidt thankfully focused on hockey, starting with the Bruins in 1936 when the club was still led by Art Ross and Eddie Shore, and concluding in 1956, when Boston lost to Montreal in the semifinals. Inducted into the HOF in 1961, we have a ribbon worn by Schmidt – most likely at his induction – and a multi-signed program from the Milt Schmidt testimonial dinner, held at the Chateau De Ville, on March 23rd 1973. The program includes signatures from a number of Bruins from the 1972 Stanley Cup-championship squad, including Orr, Espo, Cashman, Bucyk and others. As an added bonus, also included is Milt’s HOF pin, along with an attractive Bruins tie clip. An LOA from the Schmidt family will accompany.
It should be noted that all items in this lot originate from Milt’s personal collection and were acquired directly from the Schmidt family. At 6” x 9”, the testimonial program has a few photos and interesting content, with the first page signed by approx 20 in ballpoint, including the aforementioned Bruins along with O’Reilly, Sheppard, Johnston, Marcotte, Doak, Vadnais, Awrey, Smith, Frosty Forristall (trainer) and others, with an additional 13 signatures over the inside back cover from the 1972-73 Boston Braves, including Forbes, Leduc, Stirling, Gryp, Ravlich and others. The HOF ribbon is 2” x 6” and adhered to a “Milt Schmidt” name card, with a glue strip over the card’s reverse. The ribbon has gold lettering, and remains in gorgeous condition.
