Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
"Rare" is a word over-used in the hobby but does indeed apply here, as this is the first complete set of 1938-39 Quaker Oats premiums that has ever landed at our headquarters. And the condition is impressive; we cannot spot a single crease, other than the odd tiny corner crease. The images of 15 Maple Leafs, 14 Canadiens and broadcaster Foster Hewitt are astutely surrounded by facsimile frames and appear on heavy card stock measuring a little over 6" by a tad over 7-1/4" and are graced by the subjects' facsimile autographs. Very light corner touches or corner wear is not what you'll be zeroing-in on; these are beauties. To note however is the name and address of a former owner, stamped to the otherwise blank backs of all but three and measuring the size of a return address label. Not affected are Canadiens Cain and Ward and Toronto's Boll, the latter with not-too-detracting light back damage, possibly from once having been pasted. The lineup stars Hall of Famers Apps, Blake, Broda, Drillon, Hewitt (small stain), Horner, Jackson and Siebert. A terrific opportunity for enthusiasts of primo pre-war material.
