Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

Selected 80th overall at the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft, Willie Plett is probably the only NHL player to have ever been born in Paraguay. Winning the Calder Memorial Trophy in 1977 as the NHL's top rookie, Plett was a member of the Atlanta Flames when the club relocated to Calgary in 1980. We have a circa late-1980s “Marietta” captain’s jersey worn by Plett in post-NHL play, most likely an oldtimers league, with the jersey signed. With no labeling remaining and measuring-out to roughly a size 52, the red mesh sweater has “Marietta” across the chest in individual white-over-yellow tackle twill, with the sleeve and verso numbers, captain’s “C” and “Plett” over the affixed nameplate all in matching material. Willie has signed the reverse “5” in black marker, with the signature exhibiting some fading, while the jersey itself sports no obtrusive wear or damage.
