Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
At the end of each season, the most deserving players selected from the roster of the Boston Bruins are recognized during the team's annual award night. The most coveted award, dating back to the early-Sixties, is the Eddie Shore Trophy, presented each season by the Gallery Gods to the Bruin who "exhibits exceptional hustle and determination". In 1965-66, Johnny Bucyk scored a team-leading 27 times adding another 30 assists and was an easy choice for the award. Originating from his personal collection, this figural trophy, a miniature representation of the larger master award, stands 14” in height and features a posed player with a pair of menacing silver plated bears (the left one was repaired). "The Eddie Shore Trophy" is engraved on the bowl, with a plate at the base reading "Presented by the Gallery Gods to the Outstanding Bruins Player, 1965-66, John Bucyk".
We should note that the right arm was broken and repaired (glued), with a small portion of the hockey stick missing between the hands. There is also some tarnishing and spotting, with a few blemishes to the affixed metal plate. The right bear is also able to swivel somewhat.
