Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Famous hockey author and former broadcaster Brian McFarlane was one of 1000 hockey personalities to receive this limited leather-bound edition of Charles Coleman's original work on the history of the Stanley Cup in 1967. There is no greater documentation of hockey's early battles for Lord Stanley's grail, with the subsequent volumes bringing the history up to 1967. Each volume is numbered “238”, with an NHL/Brian McFarlane bookplate affixed to the inside cover of Volume 1. Evidence that McFarlane referred to the most famous hockey books is in the numerous yellow post-it notes affixed throughout the three volumes, along with the brackets added in pencil around certain paragraphs. The original slip cases are also included. The winning bidder will receive a wealth of historical hockey information, along with Brian McFarlane's signed LOA.
Each volume remains in pleasing collectible condition with general wear commensurate with their former use, with the slipcases for Volumes 1 and 2 badly damaged with torn and detached aprons. We should also note that both the front and title pages in Volume 2 have horizontal tears.
