Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Always stirring are images of the great Howie Morenz, the Canadiens’ legend who was deemed hockey’s most outstanding player of the first half of the 20th century. This desirable Bee Hive photo and its cream-colored backing display marvelously, with however multiple subtle flaws to be aware of. Upon inspection, we spot three light wrinkles or creases in the photo itself, one light bend, a couple of surface scuffs and specs of blue ink, the latter notably on the left edge (boards). The backing is clean and crease-free, with light corner touches. A subtle glue mark on the upper front of the photo, perhaps suggests re-gluing. Meanwhile, a picture on paper stock is an image of an Eaton’s store window display hailing the 1930-31 Stanley Cup champion Canadiens. It’s roughly 8” by 10”, with trimmed edges, multiple creases and a one-inch tear. Morenz, Joilat, Hainsworth, Lepine, the Mantha brothers and others had brought Montreal its second straight Cup title.
