Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Sault Ste. Marie was the junior hockey home to Wayne Gretzky and fellow HOFers Ron Francis and Paul Coffey, so OHA Soo Greyhounds alumni, including the likes of Charlie Simmer, Craig Hartsburg, Rick Tocchet, Bob Probert, Joe Thornton and Jeff Carter, are in pretty good company. Offered is Jack Valiquette’s 1973-74 Soo Greyhounds Alumni 10-karat gold ring. Valiquette won the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy in 1973-74 when he led the OHA with 135 points, breaking Dennis Maruk’s league record by 21 points. “10K” is stamped inside the size 12 band of the ring, which weighs approximately 25 grams and displays a gold Greyhounds logo on a red stone set in the tableau and “Valiquette” on the left shank.
“Soo Greyhounds Alumni” is spelled out around the bezel, and the right shank has “1973-1974” across the top above an OHA crest with Valiquette’s No. “8” at the bottom. The left shank has an image of a skating hockey player below Valiquette’s surname and “Center” at the bottom.
Valiquette was selected by Toronto with the 13th pick in the first round of the 1974 NHL Draft. He had 218 points, including 84 goals and 134 assists, in 350 games in seven NHL seasons with the Maple Leafs and the Colorado Rockies from 1974-81.
