Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018

One of the league’s premiere defenceman throughout the late-1970s to mid-1980s, Denis Potvin accumulated numerous accolades and achievements, including being the first defenceman in history to secure 300 regular season goals as well as being the first to reach the 1000-point plateau - absolutely remarkable for a blueliner. We have a New York Islanders jersey that was worn by the HOFer and three-time James Norris winner during the mid-1970s, circa 1974-76. A Rawlings label with “50” sizing sits affixed beneath the collar, with the collar itself utilizing six-eyelet configuration on tie-neck construction. Featuring a gorgeous Islanders team crest fully administered in tackle twill, the vintage durene has been accented with dual-colour sleeve and verso numbers in matching material, with a loop-style fight strap used. A detailed LOA from MeiGray along with an additional COR will accompany this important garment.
It should be noted that the team crest has been restored, as the jersey was originally sent down to the Islanders Fort Worth minor league affiliate for use, later sent back to New York where the jersey was re-crested (this information is all detailed on the LOA). An absolute ton of use is immediately visible on the sweater, with heavy dark marks over the front and sleeves as well as paint transfer over the reverse, right elbow and front and back lower hem. There are also board burns over each sleeve with a partially-repaired hole near the left elbow, with additional team repairs over the front, reverse and right sleeve.
