Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Premiums available to peanut butter lovers in the early-1960s lead here, with a York album from 1961-62 featuring 34 of 42 octagon-shaped cards pasted neatly into place, along with five duplicate cards of Maple Leafs, the latter affixed to the “My Favorite Hockey Stars” page (Bower, Keon, Shack, Stanley, Pulford). The original owner’s name and address is written in the appropriate spot on the inside cover, with moderate wear to the (VG) covers to report. Meanwhile, York 5” by 7” photos include five Maple Leaf examples which average VG; Horton, Keon, Bower, Duff and Brewer, with Shack low grade. Canadiens Plante and Geoffrion display similarly but each have a tape stain on the back. A Chex Cereal photo of Gordie Howe has a top-to-bottom crease over near the right border, as well as a tape stain below the Red Wings logo. Also with condition issues are a 1939-40 OPC #84-Alf Pike 5” by 7” rookie card (glued) and a ’40-41 OPC 121-Joe Benoit RC (partially-erased name in upper border). More than 40 Quaker Oats pictures from the ‘40s have swell images to check out, but almost all have either tape stains at the four corners or “white out” covering up the stains. A trimmed Maple Leafs team photo, with tape stains, is notable. Collectibles from the ‘70s are also present, with a soft cover ’70-71 Esso Power Players album complete, (except for the pre-printed stamps in the album), and exhibiting moderate handling/wear with a partially split spine and a tear in the back cover. An almost-full intact Series #11 sheet of ’73-74 Eddie Sargent stamps includes HOFers Horton and Savard, while completing are six hockey instructional booklets in French, (overall VG-EX), put out by Towers/Bonimart and with a 1972 copyright date.
