Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
The man largely responsible for the growth of hockey on the west coast, Fred J. Hume held the office of Mayor of New Westminster from 1934-42. Inducted in the HHOF as a builder, Hume was also involved prominently with the New Westminster Salmonbellies Lacrosse Team, one of the most successful in Canadian history. From his time as president of the Salmonbellies, we have a gorgeous presentational tray that was given to Hume by team members on their 1937 Mann Cup championship. At roughly 13” x 22” and ornately embellished with exceptional scroll work and detailing, “To our President Mayor F.J. Hume – Salmonbellies Lacrosse Team Canadian Champions 1937” has been engraved along the center, with "Old English Reproduction silver plate on copper -B-M-MTS- 6585" on the reverse. A letter of provenance from the Hume family will accompany.
The tray exhibits expected wear along with some light tarnishing, with a few small blemishes near the center. We should also note that there is a very slight bow to the tray as well, only noticeable when the tray is sitting flat.
