Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Mighty elusive are cards issued by Crescent Ice Cream of Winnipeg and depicting members of the Selkirk Fishermen, with a set considered complete at 13 since the #6-Cecil Browne card was short-printed to reduce the number of prizes (bricks of ice cream) awarded to consumers who assembled a set. Although slabbed “1924” by PSA, these examples are actually from the first year of the two-season promotion which began in 1923-24. There is a mix of black and white and sepia tone cards, with the grading lowdown as follows. Leading at VG-EX 4 is #11-Leo Benard (sepia), with 14-Billy Borland close at VG+ 3.5. A pair of VG 3 examples include 2-Jack Hughes (sepia) and 5-W. Roberts, while three are slabbed Good 2; 1-Howard Brandow (sepia), 3-Tony Baril and 8-Selkirks - On The Ice. Completing the group are 10-Cliff O'Meara (FR 1.5) and 12-Pete Speirs (PR 1). Intriguing treasures from western Canada to enhance a pre-war card shrine.
