Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Interesting, interesting are these little pieces of Canadiana, with Toronto's Dominion Chocoloate Company paying tribute to Canada's top athletes with two sets of cards in the mid-1920s. These all feature hockey players and are from the second set, a 60-card affair, with however only 41 total cards (with tabs at the bottom still present), ever having been encapsulated by PSA graders. Picturing members of the Toronto Millionaires hockey club, card #s 17-Gerald Green and 26-George Clark are slabbed VG 3 and lead their respective "lines" on the PSA Population Report, with the former a Pop 1 and latter a Pop 2. Despite its mark of PR 1, #23-Doug Young is also a PSA leader, the only such card ever to have landed at PSA. The two other cards contributing to the group include one that actually graded higher, with 28-Ken Doraty. (later of Toronto Maple Leafs' fame), slabbed EX 5 (Pop 2 with 1 higher), while 11-Alex Gray is at EX 5 (MC)(Pop 1 with 1 higher). The little tabs, or coupons, below each picture were designed to be cut-off and mailed-in as a set, in return for a prize, explaining the scarcity of intact/unaltered cards.
