Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Always intriguing are the crude cards from the 1920s which were put out by an unknown manufacturer, with a PSA chart-topper leading the way here. Although pictured in a Montreal Maroons sweater, Louis Berlinquette is listed on the reverse of his card #47 as a "Pittsburgh Team Player", with this example receiving a second-to-none mark of EX 5 from PSA. The company has only ever graded one other Berlinquette card (VG 3), while just 90 "Anonymous" cards total (over the two years that they were reportedly issued) have ever been PSA-slabbed, with only six higher than this EX 5. Those of the Jewish faith will be intrigued with the opportunity to score a card of Sam Rothschild, with his card #100 graded VG-EX 4 (MC) and bettered at PSA by just a single "4" without a qualifier. Two Montreal Canadiens complete the lot, with #1-Billy Boucher missing part of top portion and thus slabbed "Authentic", while an example of 7-Wildor Larochelle comes in at Good 2. Stirring, thought-provoking images!
