Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
From a time when there was still much division between Canadian and Soviet hockey, the 1987 Canada Cup witnessed a three-game final between the powerhouse nations, with MVP Wayne Gretzky leading the Canadians along with Mario Lemieux scoring the famous Canada Cup-winning goal in Game 3. We have a Team Canada jersey worn by Larry Murphy in the memorable tournament, and it’s been photo-matched. Maska labeling remains affixed to the collar, with an embroidered CCM crest on the back bottom hem. Styled with the familiar sectioned maple leaf screened-on over the chest, the jersey has been accented with additional screened-on leaves over each sleeve, with “8” on verso in tackle twill along with the Canada Cup crest over the right breast.
A few dark marks are present, with board burns over each sleeve along with a few small resulting holes near the right elbow. A few additional marks are present over the reverse number, with moderate pilling along edges of the heavily washed fight strap. Two numeric images will be included, with one matched to the white mark on the lower left sleeve, while the second image is matched to the small cut on the maple leaf logo on the right sleeve.
