Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Offered by Classic Auctions and the NHLPA to benefit the SickKids Foundation, this Black Hawks jersey was worn in the warm-up and photo-shoot prior to the 2009 Winter Classic by defenceman Dustin Byfuglien. Size tagging is attached to the collar, with NHL and Reebok crests on the front and back necklines respectively. Featuring the attractive team crest in use during the early-1950s, the tie-neck garment has been styled with three-layer twill sleeve and back numbers, with the important 2009 Winter Classic crest residing over the right breast. With no visible signs of wear, the overly large jersey remains in gorgeous condition, perfect for those collectors of rare and vintage retro-styles. An LOA from the NHLPA will accompany.
An inverted MeiGray patch numbered F05061 sits on the inside hem, and according to their population report, the jersey is a "Worn During Photo-Shoot and WarmUp - NHLPA Set / Black Retro - Winter Classic 1/1/2009" example.
With just over 700 games played between them at the time, the 2009 Winter Classic pitted the then-current Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings against the powerful Chicago Black Hawks at Wrigley Field before over 40,000 jubilant fans.
