Representing the formative years for Wayne Gretzky when the superstar shined briefly in the WHA before embarking on his historic NHL career, we have a pair of early Gretzky programs, with an example hailing from his stint with the Indianapolis Racers in 1978-79, along with a program from Wayne’s time in the OHA with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. The Greyhounds program features a loose center line-up page that mentions Gretzky in the line-up, with a ticket stub from the game to accompany with a handwritten score of 5-2 for Ottawa. This was Game 3 of the quarterfinal round, played on March 31, 1978. The 8 ½” x 11” program itself remains in beautiful condition, with just light handling wear present, with some light wear to the spine and bottom left corner. The Racers program hails from Gretzky’s last of only 8 games played in Indianapolis, making it a true rarity. The contest occurred on October 29th 1978 in Winnipeg, with the date handwritten on the left side of the cover. With just light handling wear present including some toning, the desirable 8 ¼” x 11” program remains in gorgeous condition. Wayne would garner 3 goals and 6 points in 8 games while with Racers.
