Establishing the first field hockey team at the University of British Columbia as a 19 year old, Harry Warren repeated the feat when he introduced the sport to California Tech. Coaching throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Warren was also the founding president of the CFHA, bringing the Canadian Women’s and Men’s Field Hockey Associations under the fold of both the International Hockey Federation and the Canadian Olympic Association. Receiving the Order of Canada in 1972, Warren is a member BC Sports Hall of Fame and he’s recognized as the “Father of Canadian Field Hockey”. We have a wonderful group of memorabilia hailing from the prominent athlete’s personal collection. Included, we have a number of vintage programs totaling 20, with examples for track & field, cricket, rowing and rugby, along with 3 vintage track & field magazines/publications. We also have an attractive medal from the 1992 Pan Am Games accompanied by a crest, along with 2 Canadian Olympic crests and a Commonwealth Games crest. Highlights within the programs includes an example for rugby from 1932, with the Southern California Rugby Union taking on the Vancouver All-Stars, a relay carnival program from 1926 held at the U of Washington, a Stamford Bridge track & field program from 1927 and much more. The majority of the publications remain in good condition, with expected wear from prior use along with some common flaws including rusty staples, spotting, creasing and toning. It’s not everyday that you can acquire memorabilia from the personal collection of such a prominent and historically important Canadian athlete.
