Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Featuring the Oakland Athletics, we have a great group of game-worn material totaling 16 items, spanning from the early-1970s to the mid-2000s. We have a pair of A’s game-worn batting helmets, including an example worn by A.J. Hinch, followed by three pairs of cleats, with a pair issued to A’s manager and HOFer Dick Williams in 1973, along with pairs worn by both Johnny Damon and Terrence Long. Next, we have 2 pairs of uniform pants, with examples worn by Eric Plunk in 1987 and Kelly Downs in 1992, followed by shorts worn by Eric Chavez (signed), undershirts (all signed) worn by Chavez and Adam Piatt in 2001 and Miguel Tejada in 2002, socks worn by Chavez and one other, batting gloves worn by Chavez and a pair of Athletics uniform belts. Both of the game-worn pairs of cleats show great wear, while some deterioration to the leather has occurred on the Williams cleats, while the Damon and Long examples have been signed. The batting helmets are both in A’s green with yellow brims, with “A’s” decals affixed. The 1970s example was made by Rawlings, and it features great use with a signature from Vida Blue across the brim. The Hinch helmet has some dirt staining along the top, with nice use exhibited. Next, both pairs of uniform pants show heavy use with thorough staining to the lower legs, with the Downs pants featuring Rawlings tagging, along with date and set swatches of “31 92 37/38 31” and “Set 1 1992”. “86” is also handwritten, with a few notations crossed out. The pair worn by Plunk feature Rawlings tagging, along with a date and set swatch of “51 87 36-37 27”. The pants were recycled, with “bat boy” handwritten. There is also a large team repair on the reverse. For the undershirts, the Chavez example has Majestic tagging with the bottom section and end of the sleeve’s trimmed, with Chavez adding a signature that blends into the material, while the undershirts worn by Piatt and Tejada feature Majestic and Nike tagging respectively, with each having their number handwritten along the collar label. Both have signed along the front, with Piatt in black and Tejada in blue, both adding “Gamer”. Rounding out the lot, both pairs of socks show nice use, while the Chavez batting gloves show moderate use, with each signed and exhibiting fading to the signatures. An LOA will accompany the Williams cleats, with COAs included for the Hinch helmet, Piatt and Tejada undershirts and for the socks, shorts, gloves and undershirt worn by Eric Chavez.
